Smores

Ever since FORK I have been thinking about Smores.  The Smores in these photos were from earlier this summer.  Probably early June.  I just used regular, large, Jet-Puffed marshmallows, regular graham crackers, and some creamy peanut butter.  I also had leftover white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, and peanut butter chips that I used.  I thought about buying chocolate bars but then thought, “Why not use up my leftover chips?”  I broiled them in the oven, it was just easier than the traditional method at the time.
One thought I always have when I buy marshmallows is, “Why does Jet-Puffed have this corner market?”
There are Jet-Puffed Marshmallows in: Ex-Large, Large, Small, Chocolate, Multi-colored Pastel Fruit Flavored, and now flat squares specifically made for Smores. Most stores will also have a generic brand (probably also made by Kraft ) that are only available in Large and Small.  I am not upset about it, I just wonder why.
I wonder if I put those pastel fruit flavored marshmallows on the list of foods that remind me of my mother?  If not,  I should have.  While I was growing up, every Sunday, my mother would fill baggies or Tupperware containers with those colored and/or plain mini marshmallows.  She would pack these containers, along with containers filled with various dry cereals (usually cheerios), into a large canvas tote bag to bring to church every Sunday.  These marshmallows and cereal were used in conjunction with toys and books to calm and occupy my three younger brothers during the church services.  I am sure she did the same with me when I was their age.  From what I remember, they loved them!  They would sometimes even fight over them.  Which probably isn’t saying much, because all of us kids fought over everything.  I remember stealing them from my brothers, even though I did not really even like them, because dinner was after church and by the time we got home I would always be starving!
OK, back to the Smores.  Smores are one of those desserts I rarely think about making but when I do I am always like, “Wow these are good! I forgot how much I like these!” Also, adding the peanut butter and multi-flavored chips did not hurt the final product either.
