White Chocolate, Peppermint, & Pretzel Krispy Treats

When I saw this “Creative Holiday Recipe Contest” Post on “Cookies and Cups” I knew I had to enter!  Cookies and Cups is one of my favorite blogs, I check it almost every day!
And then I got completely hung up on this one contest rule,” Your creative idea must be just that…YOUR idea. NO adaptations or “inspired by” posts please.”
To make it fair, in my own mind, I decided I would come up with a recipe, write it down, and then try it before I perused the internet to see just how many similar recipes there were to mine out there.
“But isn’t every Krispy treats recipe based on the original Rice Krispy Treat?” I asked myself.  “Or is saying Rice Krispy Treat like saying cake or cookie?” “Is a Rice Krispy Treat just a building block for an original recipe?”
I finally decided that my idea is original to me. I came up with it before I peeked.  And for my own personal ethical purposes I have decided that marshmallows, butter, and Krispy rice cereal are to Rice Krispy Treats what sugar, butter, and flour are to a cookie.
So that’s that. Thank you very much to Confessions of a Cookbook Queenand Cookies and Cups for hosting this contest!
This has been a fun and tasty adventure!
P.S. If you duplicate this recipe you may want to consider freezing the truffles first.  They got pretty melty in mine.  Also the soft, chalky texture of Bob’s Peppermint Sticks is a must for this recipe!
White Chocolate, Peppermint, & Pretzel Krispy Treats
Ingredients:
-5 c. rice Krispy cereal
-2 c. waffle style pretzels (broken up)
-1 c. peppermint sticks (I used Bob’s Sweet Stripes brand, they are soft and chalky)
 – ½ c. butter
-6 c. mini marshmallows
-12 white chocolate truffles (frozen, I used Lindor brand)
-1 c. white chocolate chips
Line a 9 X 13 cake pan with parchment paper. Sprinkle the bottom of it with the white chocolate chips. Place peppermint sticks into a gallon sized Ziploc bag and brake into pieces by hitting them with a rolling pin. In a large mixing bowl toss or stir to combine cereal, pretzels, and peppermint pieces.
Melt butter in a large sauce pan.  Add marshmallows and stir constantly until they are completely melted. Add cereal, pretzels, and peppermint pieces to marshmallow mixture.  Remove sauce pan from heat. Stir and turn cereal in marshmallow mixture until all cereal is well mixed and coated.  Pour half of the cereal mixture in pan over white chocolate chips try to spread out evenly.  Place white chocolate truffles evenly over first layer.  Top with remaining cereal mixture.  Spread out evenly and press down a little (not too much or they will get too dense) with your hands. (I coated my clean hands in canola oil before handling the mixture, because it is extremely sticky) Let treats sit for about 1 hour to cool. Remove from pan with parchment paper.  Turn over onto a cutting board.  Remove parchment paper. Cut into 8 to 12 bars. EAT!
