O’Brady’s & The Breakfast Bomber

The day of Ben’s book signing we decided to go out to breakfast. I suggested O’Brady’s. We have not been there in a very long time. I bet we only go out to breakfast about 3 or 4 times a year. I wish I would have taken a picture of the outside of the restaurant and also one or two of the inner decor. I do not think that anything has changed in there ever, including the wait staff and the regulars. I can never remember a time when there was not a war veteran sitting up to the breakfast bar discussing the world’s state of affairs with the kitchen staff and hosts.
When Ben and I were dating and first married we used to go there quite a bit, usually with Granny and Sam in tow. It was a great place to ease a hangover. Now that we’re older, and maybe a bit wiser, it is just a great place to get an incredible breakfast.
I have never had a bad meal at O’Brady’s. Not once! I think that they do breakfast best, but I have had many lunches and even dinners there that never left me complaining. One of the most comforting things about O’Brady’s is their consistency. You always know what you are going to get. Their bacon is always thick and crispy, their waffles are always light with a slight crunch, and their omelets are never browned or chewy. The omelet eggs are always perfectly cooked, impossibly thin, and stuffed to the hilt with fresh meats, vegetables, and cheeses.

From the decades old brown coffee cups to the slightly rude, yet oddly comforting, wait staff this rustic dive has nostalgia written all over it.

This child may appear pleasant and angelic at first glance.  But do not let those plump porcelain cheeks and long gorgeous lashes fool you! My new name for Will is “The Breakfast Bomber”. That morning he was perfect until our food showed up.  At that moment, Will decided he wanted to be held by me, and me only.  Also, he didn’t want me to hold him while I sat and enjoyed my meal. I had to stand up next to the table with Will perched on my left hip balancing him there with my left hand.  In my right hand I held a fork, determined to eat my breakfast as patrons and waiters struggled to shuffle past me. If I did not perform these delicate acts Will would shriek, and cry out, uncontrollably!  Good times!

That waffle, the biscuits and gravy, and coffee are my usual when we eat there. I find it hard to try anything new because I love that meal so much.
